Impacting Generations to Come

Gratitude is a word Tim Lewis, RC '13, knows well. Through his close friendship with the beloved Father Charles Shelton, S.J., former baseball team chaplain, professor, author and confidant to many, who passed away in the winter of 2014, Lewis learned the importance of recognizing and acting on gratitude.

"The essence of gratitude shows when we as humans sit, reflect and take action based on the gratefulness of our hearts," Lewis says.

As a student-athlete, business major and active member in campus organizations, Lewis learned to be a conscious and caring member of society and to process his own decisions and actively pursue the goal of the common good.

Lewis, a financial services professional at Gerlach, Way, Scarth, and Associates with Regis trustee Derek Scarth, RC '95, pursued an innovative way to give back to Regis as a young alumnus. With the help of University Advancement, Lewis has set up a legacy gift by naming Regis University both the owner and beneficiary of a life insurance policy. With annual tax deductible gifts to Regis, the policy builds cash values that, if needed, could be available to Regis in the future. This allows his gift to accrue over time and make an impact on generations of students to come.

To Lewis, it is his responsibility to support the University to foster, mold and equip tomorrow's leaders. One day, he said, his hope is to provide a scholarship to a College of Business and Economics student who encompasses the heart of gratitude.
